The Easton House
Step back into history...
Originally built as a family home by George Easton in 1812, the Easton House is a historic home that has been converted into a unique bed and breakfast located on a quaint cobblestone street in the heart of downtown Nantucket. It's been run by various generations of the Ross Family since the late 1930's.
The Easton House is located downtown, just a short walk from the Steamship Authority ferry dock.
It is close to the Whaling Museum, ferries, shops, restaurants, and Main Street, and is within easy walking distance of Children's Beach, Brant Point, and Jetties Beach.
Easton House, 1950's Easton House currently
The Easton House has nine guest rooms on three floors. Each of the rooms has its own special character and is decorated with oriental rugs, canopy beds, & antique furnishing. Most rooms utilize original antique keys used back in the 1800's.
Larger rooms feature queen sized canopy beds. Cozy, smaller rooms have double or queen sized beds featuring antique spool, cannonball, or pineapple beds.
On the first floor, you will find two sitting rooms. The front parlor has brochures, menus, and information on the island. Breakfast is served in the second sitting room and guests are welcome to lounge and watch television. Also on the first floor is one of the larger rooms in the house featuring a queen canopy bed and twin bed with private bath. This room is great for one couple or a family of three, two ladies traveling together, or for those who prefer not to climb a lot of stairs.
Five rooms are located on the second floor - one room with a queen canopy bed and twin bed with private bath, two rooms each with a queen canopy bed and private bath, and two rooms each having a double size bed and private bath.
Three rooms are located on the third floor and are the quietest rooms in the house. They feature sloped ceilings and have a loft-like feel. Two rooms on the third floor share a bath - one room with a queen bed and the second room with a twin bed. These two rooms work great for families or 3 people traveling together. We provide Frette linen robes in these two rooms for the "dash across the hall" to the shared bathroom which features an original deep-soaking cast iron claw foot tub. The third room features one double size bed and private bath.
Rooms have air-conditioning and phones. Wi-fi is also provided. Although we don't have televisions in each room, we do offer access to our Netflix account - just bring your internet device and watch movies or tv! Rates range from $95-$250 per night (early season/high season). Most rooms accommodate two people. The beds feature lined-dried sheets.
Throughout the house are original plaster walls, wide plank pine floors, original moldings and base boards (layers of old paint painstakingly removed by hand and restored).
Continental breakfast is served buffet style every morning from 8:30am until 9:30am.
Breakfast includes a choice of cereals, oatmeal, fresh fruit with yogurt, Judy's homemade breads and muffins, along with juice, coffee, and tea.
During the day or evening the living room is a great place to play games, catch a ballgame on TV, or just read a good book at the end of a full day.
If you enjoy relaxing, be sure to visit the backyard garden! During summer months, the English style garden is bursting with flowers of all types and colors.
It is a great spot to unwind. Read a favorite book, chat with friends, or nap in a lounge chair under the catalpa tree.
Bike racks can also be found in the backyard for those guests who bring or rent bicycles while they are here.
In addition to the nine rooms in the main guest house, there is also a private studio cottage available just off the garden.
The Garden Cottage is a comfortable one-room studio cottage, covered with roses and overlooking the garden. It is non-smoking, sleeps just two and is handicapped accessible.
The front entrance of the Garden Cottage features a small private porch with a table and deck chairs for guests' enjoyment.
Inside the Garden Cottage there is a complete kitchen/dining area, a living room area with overhead fan, color TV and VCR, a sleeping area with queen sized bed and skylight, and a private bath. It is open and airy, decorated in soft white, teal and rose tones. Air-conditioned and heated, the Garden Cottage is a perfect spot for a romantic honeymoon or quiet getaway.
Daily maid service is included. Rates range $175-$325 (early season/high season)

It's expensive to ferry your car over and really not necessary to enjoy
the beauty and pleasures of the island. Most of the downtown area is just
a few minutes walk from the Easton House. (Parking on the Island is scarce
and subject to 2-hour time zones.) Walking, bicycles and scooters are the main means of transportation
around the island. Bike racks are provided in the backyard for guests who bring or rent
bicycles (be sure to bring your bike lock).
Shuttle buses and taxis are
available to take you out of town, to the beaches and to other areas of the island.
If you must bring your car, please let us know, so that we can explain available
parking to you.
